Position: Rails / React Full Stack Engineer
Contract: Permanent, full time, starting January 2020
We are looking for a brilliant colleague who will work side-by-side with user experience, creative technologists using Unity, and product management to craft our teacher and student-facing applications. You’ll need to leverage the entire software stack to help us realise these goals, and you’ll be a part of a team that’s tackling difficult questions of usability, architecture and interaction design within education. Lyfta makes awe-inspiring digital learning experiences to foster empathy and global understanding. We have developed an award-winning, subscription-based digital platform where teachers and pupils can access stunning immersive storyworlds and curriculum-based lesson and assembly plans.
Our theme-based learning experiences are ideal for teaching Literacy, PSHE, Global Citizenship and Art, as well as fostering values and skills such as empathy, self-direction and critical thinking.
With over 400 schools using our platform across 2 countries, we are looking to build on our strong technology, high quality pedagogical content, clear strategy and great team to grow and make significant impact across the countries over the coming months.

You will be effective if you:
Have experience in at least one server-side language - Ruby, Java, C#, C++, Python. We build our apps in Ruby on Rails.
Have experience working closely with UI and UX colleagues
Have a strong command of fundamental algorithms and data structures.
Have a passion for software engineering, and for creating what doesn’t exist.
Know how to make the tradeoffs required to ship without compromising quality.
Realise that automated tests are a worthwhile investment.
Appreciate agility and pragmatism in software development.
Ability to prioritise workload with justification and meet deadlines
Manage a number of stakeholders and communicate effectively with non-technical colleagues.
Technologies you will use
Engineering spends much of its time with the tools above, but we strive to always choose the best tool for the job. You’ll be working alongside people that live-and-breathe a variety of languages and frameworks and will help us define the idioms to decouple systems that communicate via RESTful APIs and other protocols.
Remuneration and benefits
The salary range is £40,000-£55,000, dependent on experience
24 days annual leave plus bank UK bank holidays
Possibility to travel and work with our colleagues in Helsinki
