In his free time he teaches some of the poorest children in Khartoum science and technology skills in his science club. He accompanies them on a field trip to the ancient Kushite pyramids, where he helps children take pride in themselves and their country's rich heritage.
This is a story of bravery, self-respect and self-belief. It is about resisting oppression, fighting for change and inspiring others to stand up for what they believe in.

In the city of Khartoum, the civilians of Sudan are marching for freedom, peace and justice. The crowd fight for what they believe in, even though protesters have faced violent responses, arrests and teargas. A man dressed as 'Spiderman' offers hope to these 'revolutionaries'. His actions are captured on social media and inspire the younger Sudanese people to join in the protest.

Who is the real Spiderman?

In contrast to this public persona, he is a private superhero who performs his daily prayers on a mat in a modest room. When he is interviewed, his head is out of shot so as not to reveal his identity.
Dressing up as Spiderman is this young man's way of resisting. He feels that he is stronger and better able to fight for what he believes in when he is in his costume.

Inspiring future generations

Spiderman outside

A 30-year dictatorship in Sudan has meant that the people and particularly the children have struggled for many years. 'Spiderman' describes his difficult childhood, selling water in the market to save pennies in secret to study. This, he says, made him a fighter.
Wanting to give something back to the local children, this "self-taught scientist" demonstrates how he spends his spare time teaching the little science he knows and taking the students on field trips.
He takes the children to visit the ancient Kushite pyramids of Bagrawiyah, a UNESCO World Heritage site. He believes that teaching them about their past can help them be ready for their future.

Facing fears

Facing your fears and standing up for your beliefs is an important theme. After telling the children to live without fear, 'Spiderman' realises he must do the same. Our hero unmasks himself and finally, we see him protesting, without fear and without his costume.
"I see a future where this generation can overcome the people responsible for the coup. So everyone can have a decent life. Just to live without fear. I resist in my own special way, but anyone who resists oppression is a hero".

"If you live without fear. God willing, you can all be the next kings and queens."
