Art: Inspired by Mono (Secondary)

In this lesson we meet Mono, working in his studio and on the streets of Santiago, Chile. Each scene takes your students on a journey from the small-scale to huge artworks, in design and completion stages. It’s an opportunity to explore the work of an internationally renowned artist working today and in recent modern history, which we hope will inspire your learners to create their own art using a range of materials. It is your choice whether you focus on the political aspects of art, or design, or both. You are likely to need extra time to allow students to finish their art, or set as home learning. **You'll need to organise relevant art materials for this lesson, e.g. paper, paints and other materials.** **National Curriculum objectives:** KS3 Art - to use a range of techniques and media, including painting - to analyse and evaluate own work, and that of others - to strengthen the visual impact or applications of their work - about the history of art, craft, design and architecture, including periods, styles and major movements from ancient times up to the present day. KS4/ GCSE Art An opportunity to examine: - (26) the process of creating visual material to convey information, ideas and emotions through the use of graphic elements such as colour, icons, images, typography and photographs - (27) practical and relevant critical and contextual sources such as the work of historical and contemporary graphic designers and the different purposes, intentions and functions of graphic communication as appropriate to their own work.
