Relational Pedagogy, Connection & Belonging

Pupils’ sense of belonging and engagement is now a national priority: the DfE has committed every school to monitoring it by 2029, alongside new expectations on inclusion and enrichment. Lyfta supports this shift through immersive human stories, guided enquiry and reflective discussion that help pupils build empathy, perspective-taking, critical thinking and connection.

Belonging is central to how pupils learn, participate and flourish. The DfE's 2026 Schools White Paper sets out a new pupil engagement framework, a fresh enrichment framework that Ofsted will inspect against, and a duty on schools to publish an annual inclusion strategy. Belonging has always been part of good teaching, long before it had a name in a framework. Across PSHE, RSHE, citizenship, SMSC, oracy and personal development, teachers and leaders now need approaches that are practical, effective, and also ready to evidence.

Lyfta's approach begins with real human stories. Through immersive Storyworlds and linked lessons with their core ingredients of ‘enquiry, discussion and reflection’, pupils encounter different lives and perspectives. They then make connections with their own experiences, and reflect upon the empathy and critical thinking needed to understand themselves, others and the wider world. It's a relational approach to belonging and engagement built for the classroom, arguably ahead of the policy curve.
