Assembly: Save the Dead Sea

This assembly is a unique way to explore the Dead Sea and introduce students to the region and the challenges faced here, including environmental threats to its existence. The film is in English and Arabic. It is adaptable for KS1 by showing the film, perhaps without the subtitles, just to experience life by the Dead Sea. KS4+ would also find much to learn and could make links to the GCSE Geography curriculum and climate change. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2/3+ RE RE objectives as locally decided by your SACRE, which is responsible for producing the locally agreed syllabus for RE. The film includes a reference to the River Jordan and its importance to half of humanity: Christians, Jews and Muslims. KS2 Geography - understand geographical similarities and differences through the study of human and physical geography (focus on Jordan and surrounding region) - understand human geography, including types of settlement and land use, economic activity including trade links, and the distribution of natural resources including energy, food, minerals and water. KS3 Geography - locational knowledge of the world’s countries to focus on Asia and the Middle East, including key physical and human characteristics, countries and major cities - understand geographical similarities, differences and links between places through the study of human and physical geography of a region within Asia. - understand how human and physical processes interact to influence and change landscapes, environments and the climate; and how human activity relies on the effective functioning of natural systems.
