This lesson for KS2/3 introduces Aci, who works to improve the lives of all disabled people in Indonesia. We suggest that this lesson is taught from the front of class so you can read the article about language and disability together with pupils. Our film focusses on Aci's work for young people who have been excluded in Indonesian society. **We begin this lesson a bit differently by first thinking about language and disabilities**. This is intended to equip learners with the tools to be effective communicators around the theme. The medical profession use the term **amputee** to describe somebody who has lost one or more limbs to illness, injury/accident like Aci. However not all individuals use this term. This lesson would be great taught with the lesson plan 'Learning to speak again' about Tamara in the Netherlands in the storyworld The Singer Who Could Not Speak. **Lyfta Core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Culture and Identity, Equality and Human Rights, Health and Wellbeing, Learning and Growth, Relationships. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Adaptability and Flexibility, Coping Methods, Courage and Self-Confidence, Growth Mindset, Human Rights, Resilience & Perseverance. **SDGs:** 10. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2/3 English (reading comprehension) - Read texts structured in different ways and for a range of purposes; - Understand what they read, by identifying main ideas and summarising ideas; - retrieve and record information from non-fiction.
