This lesson can be used in KS2/3 but could also be used in a KS4 PSHE context with some amendments to language. We suggest is is taught before the lesson **Stages of human pregnancy** for fuller context. This lesson introduces Maria, an Afro-Colombian midwife In Colombia. We meet her as she goes about her work caring for pregnant women and their babies in Buenaventura, a city on Colombia’s Pacific coast.
