This lesson is suitable for KS2/3 and is adaptable for KS1 by reading the first few paragraphs of the article on Nowruz together and closely examining the images for support. Then we suggested asking the children to talk about their own traditions for spring. Discover the festival of Nowruz and learn more about the traditions shared by Malahat’s family and millions of people worldwide to welcome spring. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 English (reading comprehension) - to read texts structured in different ways and for a range of purposes, identifying main ideas and summarising these, - to retrieve and record information from non-fiction. KS3 English skills: Reading comprehension - Information retrieval, identifying main ideas and summarising these (non-fiction), - Reading for meaning. KS1 PSHE R3. about different types of families including those that may be different to their own, R4. to identify common features of family life. KS2 PSHE H25. about personal identity; what contributes to who we are (e.g. ethnicity, family, gender, faith, culture, hobbies, likes/dislikes) R7. to recognise and respect that there are different types of family structure; that families of all types can give family members love, security and stability, R8. to recognise other shared characteristics of healthy family life, including commitment, care, spending time together; being there for each other in times of difficulty. KS2 Citizenship - to reflect on spiritual, moral, social, and cultural issues, using imagination to understand other people's experiences - to think about the lives of people living in other places and times, and people with different values and customs - that differences and similarities between people arise from a number of factors, including cultural, ethnic, racial and religious diversity. KS1-3 RE RE objectives as locally decided by your SACRE, which is responsible for producing the locally agreed syllabus for RE. An opportunity to compare and contrast special festival days, both religious and secular.
