This lesson introduces Ambassador Kwon, who was the Korean Ambassador to China. Kwon now plants trees in the desert to address the problem of desertification and climate change. The lesson then introduces Enaney, a tour guide in Awra Amba - a small village in Northern Ethiopia who, despite being affected by famine, rejected food aid and built their own businesses. The focus of this lesson is on reflecting upon social change and active citizenship at a local, national and global level. You could also use this lesson to explore themes such as: climate change, leadership, self-sufficiency, resilience, problem solving and entrepreneurship. This lesson plan was initially developed for a Year 12 group in order to reflect upon social change for a better world for all (people and planet). It could be used with other Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 groups as part of in citizenship, PSHE or careers education sessions. This lesson is aimed at Key Stage 4 (14-16) and 5 (16-18). National curriculum subjects: KS4 Citizenship - the different ways in which a citizen can contribute to the improvement of their community, to include the opportunity to participate actively in community volunteering, as well as other forms of responsible activity.
