In this lesson, students will explore a storyworld based in La Palma where they’ll meet volcanologists and witness the eruption of an active volcano. Having explored the storyworld and the documentary film, students will be asked to write a description of a volcanic eruption. You may want to allow more than one lesson to complete this task. **Lyfta core themes:** Community and citizenship, Natural environment. **Lyfta core skills and values:** communication, environment & sustainability. **SDGs:** 11, 15 **English KS2 National Curriculum skills** **Year 3/4 writing composition:** - Plan their writing by discussing ideas - Building a varied and rich vocabulary - Organise paragraphs around a theme - Evaluate and edit writing by assessing the effectiveness of their own writing and suggesting improvements **Year 5/6 writing composition:** - Plan their writing by noting and developing initial ideas - Selecting appropriate vocabulary, understanding how such choices can change and enhance meaning - Structure their writing by using a wide range of devices to build cohesion within and across paragraphs - Evaluate and edit writing by assessing the effectiveness of their own writing - Evaluate and edit writing by proposing changes to vocabulary, grammar and punctuation to enhance effects and clarify meaning.
