This short lesson will help you develop a deeper understanding of the nature of Lyfta's documentary films and how they are created for our audiences. There is also a teacher/CPD version of this lesson plan called 'Documentary literacy'. If time is restricted, the lesson could be split into two lessons, Part I and Part II. The session will cover: - Accuracy, bias and representation - Filmmaking style, and the commissioning process. The lesson will invite you to use two films as a way in: **The Young Storyteller** (from Summer Village, Winter Village) and **The Lost Jewish Garden** (from Sacred Acres). **National Curriculum Links:** KS3 PSHE: L6. the importance and benefits of being a lifelong learner L10. to recognise and challenge stereotypes and family or cultural expectations that may limit aspirations L23. to recognise the improtance of seeking a variety of perspectives on issues and ways of assessing the evidence which supports those views L25. to make informed decisions about whether different media and digital content are appropriate to view and develop the skills to act on them L26. that on any issue there will be a range of viewpoints KS4 PSHE: L24. that social media may disproportionately feature exaggerated or inaccurate information about situations; to recognise why and how this may influence opinions and perceptions of people and events L27. strategies to critically assess bias, reliability and accuracy in digital content. KS3/KS4 Citizenship: Supporting aim to ensure all pupils are 'equipped with the skills to think critically and debate political questions' and supporting 'human rights' themes. KS3 Computing: To create, re-use, revise and re-purpose digital artefacts for a given audience, with attention to trustworthiness, design and usability. KS4 Computing: To develop their capability, creativity and knowledge in computer science, digital media and information technology.
