This 2-part lesson for KS3/4+ explores 22-year-old Naissa and his mother Daniela's mother-child relationship through Naissa's decision to transition from female to male. **It's essential to teach Part 1 first.** Narrated through a series of letters exchanged over 3 years, we gain a rare insight into the feelings mother and adult child share, and the ways they communicate. In part 2 we explore creative ways to begin real or imagined difficult conversations. **Note: the film contains Naissa's reflections on his mental health.** **National Curriculum objectives:** KS4 PSHE R5. the legal rights, responsibilities and protections provided by the Equality Act 2010. R40. about the unacceptability of prejudice-based language and behaviour, offline and online, including sexism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, racism, ableism and faith-based prejudice. R3. about the similarities, differences and diversity among people of different (race, culture, ability, sex, age, sexual orientation) and gender identity. R4. the difference between biological sex, gender identity and sexual orientation. This lesson also touches upon: KS5 PSHE H3. to understand some of the issues and considerations relating to body enhancement or alteration, including long-term consequences. KS3 Citizenship Pupils should be taught about: - the precious liberties enjoyed by the citizens of the United Kingdom - the nature of rules and laws and the justice system KS4 Citizenship Pupils should be taught about: - human rights and international law - the legal system in the UK, different sources of law and how the law helps society deal with complex problems. **Depending on the creative output in part 2, this could take the form of the written or spoken word, or perhaps some visual art.**
