This lesson is most appropriate for KS3 and above. **Note:** We do not watch the film about Holocaust survivor Ella in this lesson, focussing purely on the geography of this global city. It provides a great contrast to explore other Lyfta world and/or African cities, e.g. Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Baku or Sao Paulo. You will need to display the Development Compass Rose for the activity 'Delve deeper', e.g. on the IWB, or handouts/ have students open the link on their devices. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS3 Geography Locational knowledge: ▪ extend their locational knowledge and deepen their spatial awareness of the world’s countries using maps of the world to focus on Africa… focusing on their environmental regions, key physical and human characteristics, countries and major cities. Place Knowledge: ▪ understand geographical similarities, differences and links between places through the study of human and physical geography of a region within Africa. Human and physical geography: - human geography relating to: population and urbanisation; international development; economic activity; and the use of natural resources; - understand how human (and physical) processes interact to influence, and change landscapes, environments and the climate. GCSE Geography objectives: - Demonstrate understanding of the inter-relationships between places, environments and processes - Apply knowledge and understanding to interpret, analyse and evaluate geographical information and issues and to make judgements - Select, adapt and use a variety of skills and techniques to investigate questions and issues and communicate findings. KS3 English skills: Reading comprehension - information retrieval, identifying main ideas and summarising these (non-fiction); - reading for meaning. PSHE - all ages We discuss the importance of being in nature for physical and mental wellbeing.
