This lesson is suitable for KS3 or possibly KS4 and explores the city of Jakarta through literacy and geography skills. We don't watch the film or explore any of the scenes outside the cityscape to keep the focus tightly on geography. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS3 Geography Development: Investigate Indonesia as an emerging economy — economic trends, globalisation, and effects on people and the environment. Urban Environments: Jakarta as a case study of rapid urbanisation, pollution, and sustainable development. Hazards: Study Indonesia’s tectonic setting and risks of earthquakes and tsunamis. Locational Knowledge: Extend knowledge of the world’s countries with focus on Africa, Russia, Asia and the Middle East — their environments, key characteristics, and major cities. Place Knowledge: Understand geographical similarities, differences, and links between regions (e.g., UK and Jakarta). Human and Physical Geography: Study population, urbanisation, international development, and economic activity across sectors. Explore how human and physical processes interact to influence landscapes and environments. Global Citizenship: Develop understanding of globalization, migration, and sustainability.
