This lesson introduces Mohit, leading conservation efforts in his local area to protect rare hoolock gibbons and their habitats. It develops understanding of the food crops grown in Assam and introduces Fairtrade, a movement that has been going 30 years. Each September 'Fairtrade Fortnight' takes place. It is most suitable for upper KS2 and KS3. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2/3 English - read texts structured in different ways and for a range of purposes - draft and write for different purposes - retrieve, record and present information from non-fiction - explain and discuss their understanding of what they have read - provide reasoned justifications for their views. KS3 Geography - develop understanding of trade and fairtrade - extend locational knowledge of the world’s countries using maps of the world to focus on Asia (India) focusing on their environmental regions, key physical and human characteristics - understand geographical similarities, differences and links between places through the study of human and physical geography of a region within Asia - human geography relating to: population and urbanisation; international development; and the use of natural resources - understand how human and physical processes interact to influence, and change landscapes, environments and the climate. KS2 PSHE - L19. that people’s spending decisions can affect others and the environment (e.g. Fair trade, buying single-use plastics, or giving to charity)
