Fundraising and charity

This lesson builds on the introductory lesson to Erkan's storyworld, entitled 'Voice of the streets'. However, it could also be adapted as a stand-alone lesson on charities and fundraising. One activity will need paper and colouring pencils. **Lyfta core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Learning and Growth, Professions and Entrepreneurship. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Active Citizenship and Political Awareness, Communication, Creativity and Innovation, Digital Literacy, Empathy and Understanding Others, Responsibility and Accountability. **SDGs:** Whilst this lesson is not explicitly linked to any one SDG, the focus on fundraising, charity and taking positive action could lead you to explore many of the goals. For example, you could select the work of a relevant fundraising / charity organisation and investigate the SDGs linked to it, e.g. selecting the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to explore SDGs linked to nature. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 Citizenship to recognise the role of voluntary, community and pressure groups to think about the lives of people living in other places and times, and people with different values and customs; to make real choices and decisions to discuss dilemmas they come across in life (stray/unwanted pets; how to deal with such issues responsibly) to take responsibility (for example, looking after animals properly). KS2 Science to recognise that living things produce offspring of the same kind to identify how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that adaptation may lead to evolution; and that characteristics are passed from parents to offspring, for instance different breeds of dog. KS2 PSHE L4. to learn the importance of having compassion towards others; shared responsibilities we all have for caring for other people and living things; how to show care and concern for others L5. to explore ways of carrying out shared responsibilities for protecting the environment in school and at home; how everyday choices can affect the environment (e.g. reducing, reusing, recycling; food choices) KS2 Literacy to draft and write for different purposes.
