This lessons is suitable for KS2 and is a good introduction to this storyworld. It explores the science of sound through the work of marine biologist Kerri. Although this lesson touches on ocean conservation, this can be further explored in the lesson called 'Ocean pollution: Noise'. We recommend teaching this lesson first to learn about the science of sound and 'Ocean pollution: Noise' afterwards, to listen to examples and develop learners' understanding. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 Science Pupils should be taught to: - identify how sounds are made, associating some of them with something vibrating - recognise that vibrations from sounds travel through a medium to the ear - recognise that sounds get fainter as the distance from the sound source increases. KS2 Geography - locate the world’s countries, using maps to focus on North and South America concentrating on their environmental regions, key physical and human characteristics, countries, and major cities - understand geographical similarities and differences through the study of human and physical geography of a region within North or South America. KS2 English reading comprehension - give/explain the meaning of words in context (vocabulary) - retrieve and record information/ identify key details from non/fiction (retrieve) - summarise main ideas from more than one paragraph/text or media (summarise).
