Introduction to Lyfta for classrooms

Dear Teacher, Welcome to your first Lyfta lesson! The aim of this lesson is to introduce you and your pupils to Lyfta learning materials. You will discover two of our learning environments or storyworlds. Each storyworld contains one short documentary film, a variety of 360 degree content and rich media articles. The introductory lesson is structured so that you display the teaching content on one computer or laptop and a screen and conduct a discussion with your class. In future lessons, you can decide whether you want to do the same or let your students explore the learning environment from their own devices. Before this lesson, we recommend that you visit the two storyworlds included in this lesson where you will meet Rob from Cornwall in the UK (The Beachcomber) and Andrea from the Jujuy region of Argentina. How to prepare for your first lesson: 1. Before you start your lesson, sign in to student.lyfta.com using the Chrome browser. 2. Connect your laptop to a projector or screen in front of the class. 3. Check that the globe is visible and rotate to visit one of the storyworlds, found by clicking on the pin to play one of the short documentaries. This way you ensure that your internet connection and volume are at an appropriate level for the lesson. 4. Pupils can have their own devices open and work in pairs to explore at certain points in the lesson. Enjoy your visit to Lyfta's fascinating storyworlds! **Lyfta core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Natural Environment. **SDGs:** 11, 12, 14. **National Curriculum objectives:** This lesson is suitable for a range of subjects and key stages but as a starter, is clearly linked to the following: KS2 PSHE - to learn ways of carrying out shared responsibilities for protecting the environment in school and at home, - to understand how everyday choices can affect the environment (e.g. reducing, reusing, recycling; food choices). KS2 Geography: - to name and locate counties and cities of the United Kingdom and South America (Argentina).
