We'll explore how the images we are presented are sometimes not all they appear to be; learn about techniques used to improve photos and think about when we are being manipulated. This lesson has been designed to be the 10th in the Digital and Media Literacy Course. See the teacher toolkit for more detailed information about this course and also a link to a useful glossary - https://help.lyfta.com/en/articles/11130654-critical-digital-media-literacy-course-toolkit. **Other critical literacy ideas using images that you might find useful:** - Telescoping: Show students an image and gradually zoom out so they see the full picture. - Cropping: show a small piece of an image so students need to guess where, when, what, who questions about what is going on. These can be with images you’ve taken from Lyfta (e.g.screenshots), or images in the media or from image-rich magazines, such as National Geographic. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 PSHE L15. recognise things appropriate to share and things that should not be shared on social media; rules surrounding distribution of images; L16. about how text and images in the media and on social media can be manipulated or invented; strategies to evaluate the reliability of sources and identify misinformation.
