This lesson introduces Rob and his work as a beachcomber, collecting and reusing ocean plastic to make art with a social message. The following concepts are introduced: - renewable and non-renewable materials - reusing, recycling, and other ways to be more sustainable. As this lesson is for KS1 children, it needs to be taught as a whole class. **You will need Lego/Duplo or other construction materials for each pair of children.** It could be linked to Marine Conservation Society Great British Beach Clean events (usually late September). **Lyfta core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Natural Environment, Professions and Entrepreneurship, Technology and Engineering. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Collaboration and Teamwork, Creativity and Innovation, Design Thinking, Environment and Sustainability. **SDGs:** 9, 11, 12, 14. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS1 DT Design - to design purposeful, functional, appealing products for themselves and other users based on design criteria - to generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas through talking, drawing, templates, mock-ups and, where appropriate, information and communication technology Make - to select from and use a wide range of materials and components, including construction materials (Lego) Evaluate - to evaluate their ideas and products against design criteria.
