Lego challenge (KS2)

This lesson could be linked to Marine Conservation Society Great British Beach Clean events (usually late September). This lesson introduces Rob and his work as a beachcomber, collecting and reusing ocean plastic to make art with a social message. The following concepts are introduced: - renewable and non-renewable materials - reusing, recycling, and other ways to be more sustainable. **You will need Lego or other construction materials for each pair of children.** **Lyfta core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Natural Environment, Professions and Entrepreneurship, Technology and Engineering. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Collaboration and Teamwork, Creativity and Innovation, Design Thinking, Environment and Sustainability. **SDGs:** 9, 11, 12, 14. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 DT to design and make objects from a range of materials and components, including construction materials (Lego) to evaluate ideas and products against own design criteria and take on feedback to improve/refine their work. KS2 PSHE L5. to learn ways of carrying out shared responsibilities for protecting the environment in school and at home to understand how everyday choices can affect the environment (e.g. reducing, reusing, recycling). KS2 Science to compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties. KS2 Geography to name and locate counties of the UK, geographical regions and their identifying human and physical characteristics, key topographical features (including coasts).
