This lesson is suitable for KS1, KS2 and KS3. For KS1, focus on the first two tasks. **Lyfta core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Equality and Human Rights, Learning and Growth. **Lyfta core skills and values:** Communication, Digital Literacy, Growth mindset, Human Rights, Lifelong Learning, Resilience and Perseverance, Positive Attitude, Self efficacy, Work Ethic. **SDGs:** 1, 3, 4, 10. **National Curriculum objectives:** English: This lesson is a wide ranging look at libraries, literacy and learning, especially lifelong learning, and the importance of access to books. It could also be adapted for a secondary context to think about development issues such as inequalities in access to literacy/education. It can simply be used to celebrate reading and the power of books, and act as a way to introduce the importance of libraries. If you can take your class on a trip to your local library this would be great! Find out if your local authority has a schools library service: these are highly powerful lending resources where you can access books, including bilingual texts, and other resources including for example topic boxes, and costumes and props for your class to explore. You can also pay a virtual visit to some of the great libraries of the world online! Libraries appear in fiction and film, too: think Harry Potter, Beauty and the Beast and more! KS1 Citizenship 2f. that they belong to various groups and communities, such as family and school. KS2 Citizenship 2h. to recognise the role of voluntary, community and pressure groups 2j. that resources can be allocated in different ways and that these economic choices affect individuals, communities and the sustainability of the environment. KS3 Citizenship know the roles played by public institutions and voluntary groups in society, and the ways in which citizens work together to improve their communities, including opportunities to participate in school-based activities.
