Life on a Greek island (KS1)

In this lesson we explore the Greek island of Arki. We look at maps and compass directions, and use basic geographical vocabulary to describe the physical and human features of Arki. In the main activity the children have the opportunity to draw their favourite scene, and if you have time, make a collage. This lesson is most suitable for KS1. **This lesson is best taught from the front of class.** **Lyfta Core Themes**: Culture and Identity, Natural Environment. **Lyfta core skills and values:** Communication, Creativity and Innovation, Environment and Sustainability, Healthy Living. **SDG:** 3, 11 and 15. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS1 Geography name and locate the world’s seven continents and five oceans use basic geographical vocabulary to refer to: - key physical features, including: beach, cliff, coast, forest, hill, mountain, sea, ocean, river, soil, valley, vegetation, season and weather, - key human features, including: city, town, village, factory, farm, house, office, port, harbour and shop use simple compass directions (North, South, East and West) and locational and directional language [for example, near and far; left and right], to describe the location of features and routes on a map. KS1 English Speaking: listen and respond appropriately to adults and their peers ask relevant questions to extend their understanding and knowledge use relevant strategies to build their vocabulary. KS1 PSHE L6. to recognise the ways they are the same as, and different to, other people. KS1 Art to use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination to develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.
