Lyfta Time #39: Cansu in Belgium

This lesson introduces Cansu, a 13-year-old girl growing up in Molenbeek, a suburb of Brussels in Belgium. Cansu is of Turkish heritage. This lesson explores hopes and dreams and the hard work necessary to get there, in the storyworld The Hip-Hop Star. **Please note:** - **Bullying/ transition**. Cansu and her friends discuss how they are worried they might get bullied. Cansu also says a few negative things about herself, including the fact she attends a special school**. These will need additional discussion with your class and some sensitivity. It's also an opportunity to remind learners of what to do if they witness or are a victim of bullying. **Please also note that the film briefly refers to a past terror attack in Molenbeek, Cansu’s neighbourhood.** This mini-lesson can be delivered either from the front of the classroom using a central computer and screen, or for students who have access to their own computers or devices.
