Malahat: Hopes and dreams

We will explore Malahat's and our own hopes for the future.

This lesson is suitable for KS2/3 and aims to ask learners to think about their hopes and dreams, however small or big, inspired by Malahat’s story We will meet Malahat, an 11-year-old girl in Baku, Azerbaijan, who dreams of becoming a professional dancer. Malahat's family live in shared accommodation in a building designed for oil workers decades ago. She discusses her dream of a new home for her family. KS2 Citizenship - to reflect on spiritual, moral, social, and cultural issues, using imagination to understand other people's experiences - to think about the lives of people living in other places and times, and people with different values and customs - that differences and similarities between people arise from a number of factors, including cultural, ethnic, racial and religious diversity - To recognise their worth as individuals by identifying positive things about themselves and their achievements, seeing their mistakes, making amends and setting personal goals - that resources can be allocated in different ways and that these economic choices affect individuals, communities and the sustainability of the environment - what makes a healthy lifestyle, including the benefits of exercise and healthy eating, what affects mental health, and how to make informed choices. KS2 and KS3 PE Opportunities to use the film and scenes as a stimulus to discuss dance as a hobby and within the PE curriculum.
