Malte and sustainability

We'll meet Malte, a beekeeper from Berlin, and explore sustainable ways of living and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Teacher notes

This lesson introduces the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UN is a global organisation of 193 member states that have made agreements and an action plan called the SDGs. These are a blueprint to end extreme poverty and inequality and protect the planet, ensuring a healthy and prosperous life for all. The goals apply to all countries and all people, everywhere. The change towards a more sustainable future begins with people making changes in their own lives as well as governments and industry. Malte shows us how his choices contribute towards sustainability. **Lyfta core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Health and Wellbeing, Learning and Growth, Natural Environment, Professions and Entrepreneurship. **Core skills and values**: Active Citizenship and Political Awareness, Environment and Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, Healthy Living, Responsibility and Accountability. **SDGs:** introduction to all with a focus on 3,11,12,13,15. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 PSHE H2/ H3. to learn about the elements/choices of a balanced, healthy lifestyle H7. to understand how regular exercise benefits mental and physical health H16. to think about about strategies and behaviours that support mental health — including physical exercise/time outdoors L5. to consider ways of carrying out shared responsibilities for protecting the environment L28. to think about what might influence people’s decisions about a job or career. KS2 Citizenship to think about the lives of people living in other places and times, and people with different values and customs to research, discuss and debate topical issues, problems and events.
