This lesson is suitable for KS2 or KS3. It explores London's diversity back in history and provides a counter-narrative to the idea that migration to London or the UK started in the 20th century. KS2 History Supports study of an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils’ chronological knowledge beyond 1066 (the legacy of the Roman empire and other periods in history) and significant turning points in British history. KS3 History Supports a study of an aspect of social history: - the impact through time of the migration of people to, from and within the British Isles (focus on London); - social, cultural and technological change in post-war British society; the study of an aspect or theme in British history that consolidates and extends pupils’ chronological knowledge from before 1066. KS2/KS3 English - Read texts and view film in different ways and for a range of purposes, drawing inferences, drawing conclusions; - retrieve and record information from non-fiction; - explore synonyms. KS2 Geography - name and locate cities of the UK (London) and their identifying human characteristics, and understand how some of these aspects have changed over time; study of human geography of a region of the UK. KS2 Citizenship - to appreciate the range of national, regional, religious and ethnic identities in the UK; to care about other people's feelings and to try to see things from their points of view; to think about the lives of people living in other places and times, and people with different values and customs.
