Narrative writing: Part one

This is the 1st of 2 lessons which explore narrative writing. While this is designed as an English lesson, we will meet China team captain Yu, who experiences disappointment on the field and is a bereaved daughter, having lost her father. **Note: The film in this lesson explores themes of bereavement, resilience and coping with difficult emotions.** Students may need more explicit support to understand that grief can look different for everyone and that feeling sad, missing someone, or not feeling ready to talk are all normal responses. Ideas for support are included in the lesson plan 'Loss, bereavement and change' and in the longer lesson plan for this Lyfta Time 'Kids' Cup: Yu from China'. You could use this lesson to explore themes such as: being a captain and role model, coping with loss, and dealing with winning and losing.
