Ocean plastic

This lesson could be linked to Marine Conservation Society Great British Beach Clean events, usually in September. This lesson builds on the lesson 'Rob and the beach' and develops an understanding of his work as a beachcomber, collecting and reusing ocean plastic to make art with a social message. It could be adapted to KS3. We will explore ocean plastic, how it gets into the ocean, and the damage this causes. The following concepts are introduced: reusing, reducing, refusing and recycling, and other ways to be more sustainable. One activity can be carried out offline with pens and paper, or in a word document or other digital format. **Lyfta core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Natural Environment, Technology and Engineering. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Active Citizenship and Political Awareness, Environment and Sustainability, Understanding Data. **SDGs:** 6, 11, 12, 14. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 PSHE L5. to learn ways of carrying out shared responsibilities for protecting the environment in school and at home to understand how everyday choices can affect the environment (e.g. reducing, reusing, recycling; food choices). KS2 English to predict what might happen from details stated and implied.
