Meet Anna in Norway as she trains for the world’s biggest youth football tournament. Discover what perseverance and growth really mean.
Teacher notes
In this 1st lesson of the Perseverance & Growth unit, students are introduced to the idea that growth often happens when we face challenges or setbacks. Through exploring Anna’s storyworld in Norway, pupils begin reflecting on how effort, persistence, and emotional awareness help us keep going when things get difficult. **Learning objectives**: - To understand what perseverance and growth mean and why they matter. - To explore how people show perseverance in everyday life and sport. - To connect perseverance with emotional growth, resilience, and teamwork. **Summary of Storyworld**: Anna lives in Norway and loves football. She’s preparing for the Norway Cup - one of the biggest youth tournaments in the world. Her dad is her coach, and together they train hard, running alongside fjords and mountains. Anna’s story shows what it means to work towards a goal, to keep practising, and to find joy in effort. This story also helps challenge stereotypes about who can lead or play sport. For new users, see the 20-min ‘Rob in Cornwall’ introduction lesson or 45-min ‘How to Use Lyfta’ overview (links below*). Like ALL Lyfta storyworlds, these characters are unique. We don't share stories as being 'typical' or as 'single stories' of people or places. **Suggested introduction for each session in Year of Values**: Each week, we explore a powerful human story from a different part of the world, using real-life voices and experiences to help us better understand the values that shape our lives. In this session, we’re focusing on the values of Perseverance and Growth, but not by giving a fixed definition. Instead, we’ll reflect, question, and explore how people like us (and unlike us) live out this value in the real world. This is about growing our awareness of ourselves and others and being aware of the relationship between the two. Together, we’ll develop our own understanding through thoughtful reflection and respectful dialogue. **National Curriculum Links** **PSHE/ RSHE ** H16 – About strategies and behaviours that support mental health, including perseverance and resilience.
