Responsible industries: Part 1

This lesson is part one of two lessons exploring writing to argue on the topic of sustainable industries. This lesson introduces Simon from Tanzania who practices sustainable farming practices. Students will also conduct some independent research into the ways in which different industries can cause damage to our world and the ways in which this can be overcome. In the second lesson Responsible industries: Part 2, students will practice writing to argue. **Lyfta core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Professions and Entrepreneurship and Natural Environment. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Active Listening, Communication, Critical Thinking, Environment and Sustainability, Information Retrieval, Organisation and Planning, Research. **SDGs**: 3, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15 **English KS3 and KS4 key skills** - Reading non-fiction - Comprehension - Summarising and synthesising ideas and information - Evaluating ideas and information for their usefulness for particular purposes. **Geography KS4 topics** - impacts of industry on the physical environment - examples of how modern industrial development can be more environmentally sustainable.
