This lesson is suitable for KS2, KS3 and above. We meet Chen Fung Yin, a Chinese-heritage Indonesian, and explore the meaning of her name: silver phoenix. We explore the mythology of this mystical bird and respond to an article through reading comprehension. We then set up for Part 2 of the lesson where we do some creative writing featuring a phoenix and possibly other mythical creatures. KS2 teachers note that there are references to Ancient Egypt you could connect with history studies. **You'll need some art supplies for students to design and draw a phoenix.** **Please note:** the theme of names and identity is explored in much more depth in the lesson 'My name, my identity'. If possible, it would be great to begin your studies of this storyworld there. This is our 3rd Lyfta storyworld from Indonesia. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 English (reading comprehension) - to read texts structured in different ways and for a range of purposes, identifying main ideas and summarising these - to retrieve and record information from non-fiction - to draft and write for different purposes.
