Rob and the beach

This lesson could be linked to Marine Conservation Society Great British Beach Clean events (17 - 26 September 2021). This lesson introduces Rob and his work as a beachcomber, collecting and reusing ocean plastic to make art with a social message. The following concepts are introduced: - renewable and non-renewable materials - reusing, recycling, and other ways to be more sustainable. **Lyfta core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Natural Environment, Professions and Entrepreneurship. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Active Citizenship and Political Awareness, Environment and Sustainability, Responsibility and Accountability. **SDGs:** 6, 11, 12, 14. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 Geography to name and locate counties of the UK, geographical regions and their identifying human and physical characteristics to recognise their key topographical features (including hills, mountains, coasts and rivers). KS2 PSHE L5. to learn ways of carrying out shared responsibilities for protecting the environment in school and at home to recognise how everyday choices can affect the environment (e.g. reducing, reusing, recycling; food choices) L28. to think about what might influence people’s decisions about a job or career (e.g. personal interests and values) L29. to understand that people may choose to do voluntary work which is unpaid. KS2 Science to compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties to explain that some changes result in the formation of new materials, and that this kind of change is not usually reversible. KS2 English to understand what they read by drawing inferences such as inferring characters’ feelings, thoughts and motives from their actions, and justifying inferences with evidence.
