This lesson is most suited to KS3/4 but could easily be adapted for upper KS2 as an introduction to the world of work. We explore two people's careers in this lesson but you could also look at fishers Giuseppe and Joeleen in the Fish Tales storyworld 'The Last Trawler' in an extended or follow up lesson. **Lyfta core themes:** Learning and Growth, Natural Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Professions and Entrepreneurship. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Adaptability and Flexibility, Courage and Self-Confidence, Decision Making, Entrepreneurship, Environment and Sustainability, Intercultural Competence, Lifelong Learning, Work Ethic. **SDGs:** 3, 8, 11, 12, 14. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS3 PSHE L4. about the range of opportunities available to them for careers L8. about routes into work, training and other vocational and academic opportunities, and progression routes L11. different types and patterns of work, including employment, self-employment and voluntary work; that everyone has a different pathway through life, education and work L26. that there is a broad range of different jobs/careers that people can have; that people often have more than one career/type of job during their life L28. about what might influence people’s decisions about a job or career (e.g. personal interests and values, family connections to certain trades or businesses, strengths and qualities, ways in which stereotypical assumptions can deter people from aspiring to certain jobs) L29. that some jobs are paid more than others and money is one factor which may influence a person’s job or career choice; that people may choose to do voluntary work which is unpaid L30. about some of the skills that will help them in their future careers e.g. teamwork, communication and negotiation L31. to identify the kind of job that they might like to do when they are older L32. to recognise a variety of routes into careers.
