Space Newspaper Report: Part 1

In this lesson, students will explore the Space Mission Lucy storyworld, where they’ll meet project manager Donya. Students will write the first part of their newspaper report. This lesson is the first of two parts. In part 1 students will write their headline and the first two paragraphs of their report. To finish the newspaper article, you will need to go to the lesson plan 'Space Mission Newspaper report: Part 2'. This lesson is most suitable for KS2 students but could also be used in lower KS3. **Lyfta core themes:** Learning and growth, Professions & Entrepreneurship. **Lyfta core skills and values:** Creativity & innovation, Critical thinking, Design thinking, Lifelong learning, Leadership, Organisation and Planning, Professionalism. **SDGs:** 9. **National Curriculum Objectives: ** **KS2 English** **Year 3/4**: Students plan their writing by: - discussing writing similar to that which they are planning to write in order to understand and learn from its structure, vocabulary and grammar; discussing and recording ideas. Draft and write by: - composing and rehearsing sentences orally (including dialogue), progressively building a varied and rich vocabulary and an increasing range of sentence structures; - organising paragraphs around a theme; in non-narrative material, using simple organisational devices [for example, headings and sub-headings]. **Year 5/6:** Students plan their writing by: - identifying the audience for and purpose of the writing, selecting the appropriate form and using other similar writing as models for their own Draft and write by: selecting appropriate grammar and vocabulary, understanding how such choices can change and enhance meaning; using a wide range of devices to build cohesion within and across paragraphs; using further organisational and presentational devices to structure text and to guide the reader.
