Space Newspaper Report: Part 2

This lesson is the second of two, and assumes that students have already completed the lesson 'Space Mission Newspaper report: Part 1'. This lesson is most suitable for KS2 students but could also be used in lower KS3. Students will learn about direct and indirect (reported) speech and how to use this in their writing. They will write the final two paragraphs of their newspaper reports and have the chance to self-assess and edit their writing. Depending on the age and ability of your students, you may need to spend more time on this. **Lyfta Core Themes**: Learning & Growth, Professions & Entrepreneurship, Technology & Engineering **Lyfta core skills and values:** Creativity & Innovation, Critical thinking, Design thinking, Information Retrieval, Lifelong learning, Leadership, Organisation and Planning, Professionalism, Work Ethic. **SDGs:** 9. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 English Speaking: - use spoken language to develop understanding through speculating, hypothesising, imagining and exploring ideas. **Year 3/4**: Students plan their writing by: - discussing writing, similar to that which they are planning to write, in order to understand and learn from its structure, vocabulary and grammar; - discussing and recording ideas. Draft and write by: - composing and rehearsing sentences orally (including dialogue), progressively building a varied and rich vocabulary and an increasing range of sentence structures; - organising paragraphs around a theme. In non-narrative material, using simple organisational devices [for example, headings and sub-headings]. **Year 5/6:** Students plan their writing by: - identifying the audience for and purpose of the writing, selecting the appropriate form and using other similar writing as models for their own. Draft and write by: - selecting appropriate grammar and vocabulary, understanding how such choices can change and enhance meaning; - using a wide range of devices to build cohesion within and across paragraphs.
