Swimming through maths and English (KS2)

This lesson assumed that you've already explored Jasmin's storyworld Home Wasn't Built in a Day and viewed the film, although it can be taught discreetly. It uses the rich media article 'Sport: Swimming' to generate reading and maths problems. Ideally this would provide an opportunity to further explore Jasmin's storyworld content for Maths and English lessons after viewing the Lyfta Time lesson **Lyfta Time #61: Jasmin in Somaliland** or any of the other lessons attached to this storyworld. **Background note on Somaliland:** Somalia is an internationally recognised country, while Somaliland is a region in the north that declared independence in 1991 and runs its own government, even though most countries do not officially recognise it as separate from Somalia. **Lyfta Core themes:** Health and Wellbeing, Natural Environment. **SDGs:** 3, 6. **Lyfta Core Skills and Values** Communication, Information Retrieval, Intercultural Competence, Practical Life Skills, Problem-Solving, Understanding Data. **National Curriculum Objectives:** KS2 English (reading comprehension) - Read texts structured in different ways and for a range of purposes; - Understand what they read, by: > identifying main ideas and summarising these, > retrieve and record information from non-fiction.
