This lesson is suitable for primary children and has differentiated tasks for lower and upper KS2. The lesson is part of the 'Home wasn't built in a day' storyworld, where we meet 12-year-old Jasmin, who has lived in Finland all her life, and is moving ‘home’ to Somaliland with her family. Adapting to life in a new environment is difficult at first, but the more Jasmin discovers about this new place, the more comfortable she becomes. The main activity for lower KS2 involves comparing Finland and Somaliland. The main activity for upper KS2 involves researching one of the two countries and writing a leaflet. **Background note on Somaliland:** Somalia is an internationally recognised country, while Somaliland is a region in the north that declared independence in 1991 and runs its own government, even though most countries do not officially recognise it as separate from Somalia. **Lyfta Core Skills and Values:** Adaptability and Flexibility, Coping methods, Courage & self-confidence, Empathy & understanding others, Environment & sustainability, Healthy Living, Intercultural competence, Positive Attitude, Resilience & perseverance. **Lyfta Core Themes:**Community & citizenship, Culture & identity, Equality & human rights, Health & wellbeing, Learning & growth, Natural environment. **SDGs**: 3 and 10. **National Curriculum Objectives:** KS2 English (Year3/4) draft and write by: composing and rehearsing sentences orally, progressively building a varied and rich vocabulary and an increasing range of sentence structures, using conjunctions, adverbs and prepositions to express time and cause.
