This lesson is most suitable for KS2 but is easily adaptable for KS1 and would link nicely to any work on pets. **Lyfta core themes:** Community and citizenship, Health and Wellbeing, Relationships. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Empathy and Understanding Others, Generosity and Kindness, Healthy Living, Taking Initiative. **SDG:** 3. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS1/2 Literacy to ask questions to improve understanding. KS2 Geography to locate the world’s countries, using maps to focus on Europe (countries and major cities). KS1 Citizenship 2e. to realise that people and other living things have needs, and that they have responsibilities to meet them 5a. take and share responsibility (for example, by looking after pets well) KS2 Citizenship to recognise the role of voluntary, community and pressure groups to think about the lives of people living in other places and times, and people with different values and customs to make real choices and decisions to discuss dilemmas they come across in life (stray/unwanted pets; how to deal with such issues responsibly) to take responsibility (for example, looking after animals properly). KS1 Science (Year 2) notice that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults find out about and describe the basic needs of animals, for survival (water, food and air). KS2 Science to identify that animals need the right types and amount of nutrition; cannot make their own food; get nutrition from what they eat to recognise that living things produce offspring of the same kind.
