Adaptable for any context, including KS3/4 Geography. This lesson could be linked to Marine Conservation Society Great British Beach Clean events (usually late September). This lesson suggests you take your class on a visit to a nearby water source, e.g. a pond, canal, river or seashore, according to your school's risk assessment policies. As such, it could be appropriate for any age group, especially KS2 and KS3. You'll need equipment to sample water quality, e.g. beakers, thermometers, filter paper and other equipment to measure data. Some water companies organise tours and outdoor learning centres also may welcome a school visit- check your local providers. **Lyfta core themes:** Community and Citizenship, Natural Environment, Technology and Engineering. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Active Citizenship and Political Awareness, Environment and Sustainability, Understanding Data. **SDGs:** 6, 11, 12, 14. **National Curriculum objectives:** KS2 Geography to use fieldwork to observe, measure, record and present, using a range of methods. KS2 Science - to recognise that environments can change and that this can sometimes pose dangers to living things - to explore examples of human impact (both positive and negative) on environments, and the negative effects of population and development, litter or deforestation - to take measurements, using a range of scientific equipment. KS2 PSHE L5. to learn ways of carrying out shared responsibilities for protecting the environment in school and at home to understand how everyday choices can affect the environment (e.g. reducing, reusing, recycling; food choices) H41. to learn strategies for keeping safe in the local environment or unfamiliar places (water).
