Writing to advise (KS2)

In this lesson, students will meet Anni and find out about how she defies gender stereotypes to pursue her interests. From here, students will write a short speech advising young people to participate in a wider range of new hobbies. Finally students will self-assess against a checklist of criteria. **Lyfta core themes:** Health and Wellbeing, Learning and Growth. **Lyfta core skills and values:** Communication, Coaching and mentoring, Courage and Self-Confidence, Healthy Living. **SDGs:** 3, 5. **KS2 English** **Year 3/4 writing composition:** - Plan their writing by: discussing writing similar to that which they are planning to write in order to understand and learn from its structure, vocabulary and grammar - Discuss and record ideas - Organise paragraphs around a theme. - Evaluate and edit by assessing the effectiveness of their own writing. - Proofread for spelling and punctuation errors. **Year 5/6 writing composition:** - Identify the audience for and purpose of the writing, selecting the appropriate form - Noting and developing initial ideas - Selecting appropriate grammar and vocabulary - Use devices to build cohesion within and across paragraphs - Evaluate and edit work by assessing the effectiveness of their own writing. - Proofread for spelling and punctuation errors.
