Writing to persuade: Part two

During the last lesson, you visited Tamara and found out about ways in which cities could be made more inclusive. You prepared to answer a persuasive writing question by planning your ideas.

This lesson is second of two parts, focusing on persuasive writing. If you haven't already done so, you may want to start with the lesson titled 'Writing to persuade: Part one' Last lesson, students met Tamara who, as a result of a brain injury, lost the ability to speak and also suffers from loss of movement on one side of her body. Students got the opportunity to explore the city of Amsterdam and identify ways in which it has been designed to allow for equitable access for all. Students used this as a stimulus to reflect on the design of their local area and produced a plan for a letter to their MP, persuading them to make their village, town or city more inclusive. This second lesson will get students to write their letter, ensuring they use all of the crucial skills for writing quality non-fiction. **Lyfta core theme:** Community and citizenship, Equality and human rights. **Lyfta core skills and values**: Active Citizenship & Political Awareness, Communication, Critical Thinking, Empathy & Understanding Others, Healthy Living, Human Rights, Research. **SDGs:** 3, 9, 10. **KS3+ KS4 English skills:** - Planning - Organising information and ideas - Writing non-fiction - Audience, purpose and form - Using language effectively - Vocabulary.
