Pri Values - Respect & Inclusion 1: Sylvain (1/2)

This is the 1st lesson in the Year of Values series. The session introduces Sylvain, a Transport for London worker based at Brockley station, whose small daily actions have a big ripple effect on those around him. Sylvain’s story is an emotionally accessible, real-world example of what respect and inclusion can look like in practice. It sets the tone for the year ahead by emphasising relational values, personal responsibility, and human connection. Guidance: This session can be delivered from the front of the class or on student devices (if available). The lesson invites students to reflect, share, and journal on the value of respect, not as a fixed definition, but as a living, evolving part of how they show up for others. In this session, we’re focusing on the values of respect and inclusion, but not by giving a fixed definition. Instead, we’ll reflect, question, and explore how people like us (and unlike us) live out this value in the real world. This is about growing our awareness of ourselves and others and being aware of the relationship between the two. Together, we’ll develop our own understanding through thoughtful reflection and respectful dialogue. **Lesson objectives:** Students will: - Reflect on what respect and inclusion look like in action - Explore the power of small acts of kindness and visibility - Make connections between personal values and everyday choices - Begin to define what respect means in their own lives. To recognise there are human rights that are there to protect everyone. **Citizenship (KS2)** - To reflect on spiritual, moral, social, and cultural issues, using imagination to understand other people’s experiences. - To appreciate the range of national, regional, religious and ethnic identities in the UK. - To explore how people live and work together in communities, and how they can take part in improving them. - To consider how rules and laws protect people and to understand why different rules are needed in different situations. **English (KS2)** - To listen and respond appropriately to adults and their peers. - To articulate and justify answers, arguments and opinions. - To consider and evaluate different viewpoints, attending to and building on the contributions of others.
