Sec Values Courage & Resilience 2: Lukas (1/2)

This is the second session in the secondary "Courage and Resilience" unit. It follows Catherine's story visited in the first lesson, which explored external strength and perseverance. Now, students meet Lukas, a boy from Denmark whose courage emerges through living with limitation. In the scene he is 15 years old, but was 12 in the film. Lukas' story centres on quiet resilience, hope, and the role of faith in keeping going when things feel uncertain or out of reach. We explore Lukas' storyworld 'Heart of an athelete', along with themes such as: prayer, faith and healing, community and citizenship, culture and identity, health and wellbeing, relationships. **In the next session of this unit we watch Part 2 of the film, where learners can see the film's conclusion.** This short lesson can be delivered either from the front of the classroom using a central computer and screen, or for students who have access to their own computers or devices. Like ALL Lyfta storyworlds, these characters are unique. We don't share stories as being 'typical' or as 'single stories' of people or places. Suggested introduction for each session in Year of Values: Each week, we explore a powerful human story from a different part of the world, using real-life voices and experiences to help us better understand the values that shape our lives. In this session, we’re focusing on the values of respect and inclusion, but not by giving a fixed definition. Instead, we’ll reflect, question, and explore how people like us (and unlike us) live out this value in the real world. This is about growing our awareness of ourselves and others and being aware of the relationship between the two.
