Meet 12-year-old Deenpal in Denmark, a Sikh boy that loves football.

This is the fourth lesson in the Perseverance and Growth unit from the Secondary Year of Values programme. This lesson introduces Deenpal, a young boy growing up in Denmark and part of the 'Becoming Me' storyworld series. We explore Deenpal's storyworld 'Brave on the Pitch', along with themes such as: fear of failure, resilience, hopes and dreams and goal-setting. Like ALL Lyfta storyworlds, these characters are unique. We don't share stories as being 'typical' or as 'single stories' of people or places. **Curriculum Links:** PSHE KS3 H1, H3, H4, R33, L1, L4 Recognising emotional responses, managing fear, building resilience. PSHE KS4 H3, H4, L3, L5 Strategies for perseverance, self-confidence, and reflection on strengths. Citizenship / SMSC KS3-4 Courage, identity, equality. Perseverance and Growth (Year of Values 4/6 Sec)

Perseverance and Growth is the fourth unit in Lyfta’s Year of Values course for secondary students. Across six lessons, students encounter real human stories from around the world. Through immersive films and storyworlds, students are encouraged to reflect critically and relationally on what perseverance and growth mean in different contexts, and how these values shape their own communities and lives. Rather than memorising fixed definitions, the unit invites students to question, discuss, and explore the complexity of perseverance and growth in practice. It builds understanding of diversity, human rights, and shared humanity, while fostering empathy, dialogue, and critical thinking.
