We began the session by connecting the overarching themes of the lesson to students' own lives. As classes reflected on how dreams can change over time, students shared evolving ambitions (from footballers to architects, scientists to performers) recognising that growth is a natural and important part of learning and development.
Curiosity, connection, and real-world values
Using Lyfta’s immersive globe and Cansu’s storyworld, students explored different areas of Brussels before watching the film. Observations quickly turned into thoughtful questions, with pupils noticing both similarities and differences to their own communities, and engaging with her world with curiosity.
As we watched Cansu’s film, which explored her hopes, dreams and uncertainties, students were struck by Cansu’s honesty as she worked hard at her craft and shared challenges she faces. Cansu is preparing to move school and harbours her own personal insecurities.
Perseverance recognised
Across all sessions, one value stood out clearly: perseverance.
Students recognised the effort behind Cansu’s dream of recording her own rap song and creating a music video, her determination to keep going despite uncertainty, self-doubt, and external pressures.
“She’s scared but she’s kept on trying.”
“She never gave up on her dream, she showed us resilience.”
“It shows your dreams won’t come easy but if you try they can happen.”
Pupils also identified the complexity of perseverance, that it isn’t just about success, but about continuing even when things feel difficult:
“She has lots of worries and pressure but manages them well.”
Growth in action
Students also demonstrated a clear understanding of growth, recognising how Cansu develops over time through effort, practice, and support.
“She is getting better at rapping because she is practising a lot.”
“She has grown in confidence and she looks happy.”
“She has the support of her mentor which helps her improve.”
Pupils recognised that growth isn’t always easy or immediate; it requires patience, courage, and belief.
From reflection to aspiration
As the session progressed, students began to reconnect these values to their own lives.
Classrooms shared goals ranging from becoming athletes and artists to developing personal skills and confidence. Alongside these ambitions came advice to one another rooted in the session’s core values:
“Never give up, always try your best.”
“Work hard in school, get help when you needed and keep going - you’ll get there in the end!”
“Chase your dreams, keep going even if you think you can’t.”
These moments reflect the power of values education at its best, where pupils don’t just understand concepts like perseverance and growth, but begin to apply them meaningfully to their own lives.
Values that live beyond the lesson
This live lesson is a powerful example of Lyfta’s Year of Values in Action approach - where values are experienced through real human stories, dialogue, and reflection.
By stepping into Cansu’s world, students saw what these values look like in real life, and left inspired to carry them forward in their own journeys.
